Brulée - Jazz With a Twist
 Julie Weiner and Doug Onstad, two Sonoma County musicians have joined forces to create Brulée. Synergizing a wide range of musical genres with Julie on vocals and Doug on piano, guitar and vocals, this new ensemble does “Jazz with a Twist.” Standards, blues, classic jazz vocals and vocalese with a bit of pop and folk are the building blocks of a repertoire built on a foundation of musicianship and taste unique on the Sonoma County stage.
Julie Weiner is a born vocalist who comes from a family of singers and musicians. Her mom toured with the big bands, was a featured vocalist on national live radio and taught music to kids in the inner city and her brother is a percussionist extraordinaire. Julie is a veteran of musical comedy and theatre and reveals her love of lyric and melody with captivating tenderness and a heart full of soul. She has a voice that is at once technically spot on and capable of searing emotional declaration. Julie has an astounding three octave range and a tone of crystalline clarity.
Doug Onstad, who has arranged all of the duo’s piano interpretations, knows how to hold the gorgeous melodies of the pair’s song book in chordal inventions that are at once classic and adventurous. Julie and Doug also perform some of Doug’s own compositions that have grown out of Doug’s love for American music. Jazz, Rock and R&B are informed by grounding in classical music for piano in alchemy of all of the best of our national musical vocabulary. Doug’s music has been recognized with top honors at West Coast Songwriter events.
